This Is The End, Beautiful Friend, This Is The End

The downside to basing creative work on satire is that you’re dependent on the object of the satire existing. But once the object disappears, you’re faced with a choice. Since the object is no longer producing anything you can satirize you can continue for a while based on people’s memories. But, ask yourself when the last time you saw a George W. Bush impersonator. Perhaps on some SNL rerun on Netflix but that would be about it. Or, you can quit while you’re ahead. As you can see, I chose the latter.

I don’t have much readership, so I was free of the guilt associated with abandoning them. At the same time, however, you must consider what’s happened on the typical newspaper comics page, with some strips either in posthumous reruns or strips being drawn by the children or grandchildren of the original artist. There really is a time to quit. This is mine.

Whither Insider Box?

In case you don’t read my main blog, the Gannett chain shut down the Insider on June 24. It’s been replaced for now with the ROCWeekend section of the D&C. I’m not quite sure what this will mean for this comic, although my meager readership would say I could go on indefinitely since no one would notice or care the real-life paper no longer existed. I’ll make my decision next week.

Another hiatus

I’ll be honest, I thought for a while that my comic was finally getting some attention and that maybe I wasn’t going to be unknown forever. But once I sobered up I realized that the spikes in readership were due to putting iP*d and iPh*ne in my tags and not due to a sudden wave of interest. Once I got off that topic, readership dropped back down to me.

I put a lot of stuff out on the web, not just this comic, and no one notices. I’m tired and I don’t want to do this anymore.
